Chapultepec Castle

Originally built as a royal palace in the late 18th century, this castle served as the residence of Emperor Maximilian I (a Habsburg, installed by occupying French forces under Napoleon III) and Empress Carlota during the Second Mexican Empire in the 1860s. Today, it houses the National Museum of History, showcasing artifacts, paintings, and murals that illustrate a broad swathe of Mexican history and its political struggles.
