Paris, Île-de-France, France
Place de la ContrescarpeA charming square located at the summit of the historic Rue Mouffetard. The square and fountain were established in 1852 during the Haussmann renovation of Paris, clearing a dense cluster of medieval houses to create a central gathering point for the Latin Quarter. There are many bistros and cafes with outdoor terraces to grab a drink or a meal at. If you saw the viral flash mob of Bohemian Rhapsody in Paris last year, it took place here, so you never know what might happen in this square!

Paris, Île-de-France, France
Place DauphineTucked away at the western tip of the Île de la Cité, Place Dauphine is a hidden sanctuary often called the most romantic square in Paris. Commissioned by Henri IV in 1607 (shortly after the Place des Vosges), it is a unique triangular "square" enclosed by elegant 17th-century buildings that shield it from the noise of the surrounding city. In the summer you can find locals playing bocci here and lots of people out on terraces enjoying a drink.
