Featured in: S8E2 ("Murder Most Animal") The scene of a bizarre murder where a zookeeper is killed by a tranquilizer dart in the middle of the jungle. Fun fact: The real zoo is famous for its suspended wooden rope bridges that take you 20 meters high into the rainforest. The camera crew strategically used these bridges to get incredible aerial shots.

"Saint Barnabas Island", featured in: S12E4 This was a massive milestone for the production crew! It marked one of the first times an entire episode's primary location was moved completely off the Basse-Terre coast and filmed in the flatter, sugarcane-heavy region of Grande-Terre to make it look like a completely different island.

Featured in multiple episodes (Season 8, episode 1; Season 10, episode 8...) Situated on a steep hillside with stunning views of the bay, this authentic, seaside cemetery. Here the graves are traditionally adorned with shells. The cemetery is repeatedly used for the show's funeral scenes and suspect interrogations.

Fun fact: It was also used as a convent in Series 2 in the episode where a nun is found dead in her cell.

Jagged rocks jutting from the sea just off this black sand beach with basalt formations. The black volcanic sand gives a surreal vibe, the cliffs are wild and cinematic, raw and beautiful. Incredible photo opportunities. Easy access, and in season this is where to see puffins in Iceland on the hill.

Unique and pretty experience. Small glacier pieces washed ashore on the black sand, like diamonds in the waves. Even with tourists around it is worth it. Wildlife and ice together, incredible peacefulness, one of my favorite spots around the island.

Diamond Beach has black sand with chunks of ice that have drifted from Jökulsárlón and washed ashore. The contrast of clear ice and dark volcanic sand is beautiful. It can get a little crowded, but walk a bit further along the beach for quiet spots.

Reynisfjara Beach

Reynisfjara is the most famous black volcanic sand beach in Iceland. It has tall basalt columns, unique rock formations, a cave in the cliffs, and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks rising from the sea. The waves are very strong and dangerous, so it is important to stay well back from the water.

This beautiful black sand beach has pieces of iceberg drifting ashore. A must stop area, as the contrast between the clear ice and the dark shore is amazing.

This beach’s sand has an amazing yellow color. The drive here is a little steep and curvy, so be careful. If you’re lucky, you can see seals here.
