Spain - Barcelona
Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona
By @hanneolsen
In the Raval you find a cultural center inside the old Casa de la Caritat, redesigned in the 1990s by Helio Piñón and Albert Viaplana. A glass façade leans toward the courtyard and reflects the rooftops, linking historic brick vaults with clean, bright galleries. The program looks at how we live now: exhibitions, debates, film and city ideas under one roof.
Address: Carrer de Montalegre, 5, Ciutat Vella, 08001 Barcelona, Spain
Why go
Architecture and content in balance. Strong temporary shows with a clear contemporary focus. Xcèntric for experimental cinema and Kosmopolis for literature.
Known for
A sharp program on urban life and culture in a historic complex with a mirrored courtyard façade.
Vibe
Quiet, light filled interiors. A calm courtyard outside with reflections and city life just beyond.
Tips
Check the calendar before you come. Free entry on Sundays from 15:00 to 20:00 with online reservation. If the Mirador is open, start or finish there for a clear view over the sea, Montjuïc and Tibidabo. Leave time for the bookshop and the courtyard.
