Tonda-Bayashi Templetown

By @tabimawari

Well-preserved historic district in the southeast of Osaka, about a 10-minute walk from Kintetsu Tondabayashi Station. Founded in the 16th century around the Kōshō-ji Betsuin temple, this jinaimachi (fortified temple town) retains its original street layout, with merchant houses, stone-paved alleys, earthen walls, and wooden facades. Some of the old residences are open to visitors. The atmosphere is calm and timeless, with few cars and many architectural details to observe. Entrance fee: Free (some historic buildings: ~300–500 yen) Touristy? Not very. Appreciated by history enthusiasts, photographers, and lovers of traditional towns. Still untouched by mass tourism—perfect for a peaceful stroll through a preserved historical setting.

Address: 20 Tondabayashicho, Tondabayashi, Osaka 584-0033, Japon
