Iceland - Kirkjubæjarklaustur
Fjaðrárgljúfur
By @thebritishexplorer
A vast moss lined canyon near Kirkjubæjarklaustur. Around 100 metres deep and two kilometres long. The Fjaðrá River carved it over thousands of years at the end of the Ice Age. Green walls. A winding river. Big views. ⛰️
Address: 881, Iceland
Why go
Walk the rim on a well kept path with several brilliant viewpoints over the serpentine river and open plains.
Vibe
Majestic. Serene. Ancient
Tips
I recommend sticking to the marked trails and platforms. Sections can close to protect the fragile moss.
