Iceland - Reykjahlíð

Grjótagjá

By @thebritishexplorer

A small lava cave near Lake Mývatn with bright blue geothermal water inside. It became famous after the Jon Snow and Ygritte scene in Game of Thrones. Hidden. Atmospheric. Iceland at its most otherworldly. ❄️💧

Address: J4G8+GQX, 660 Reykjahlíð, Iceland

  • Why go

It is a real filming location and the cave itself is naturally beautiful with vivid blue water.

  • Vibe

    Mysterious. Intimate.

  • Tips

I recommend viewing only. You cannot swim here as the water temperature is unpredictable after volcanic activity. It is a little tricky to find but it sits close to Lake Mývatn.
